ICCJ Ramadan Greetings

The blessed month of Ramadan is upon us and we wish all our Muslim friends "Ramadan Mubarak" (Blessed Ramadan)!

We pray that Muslims around the world can celebrate in peace and security. May this time of fasting and feasting, with its themes of generosity, patience, forgiveness, and compassion, be both meaningful and restorative.

The new moon of Ramadan appeared over a world in which there is much suffering. Of particular concern for interreligious relations is the ongoing misery and bloodshed in the Middle East, which we lament. We also deplore the sharp global rise in religious bigotry and hostility which sometimes spills into hatred and violence.

This spring the celebrations of Ramadan, Easter, and Passover all occur within weeks of each other. Each in its own way stresses renewal, hope, and love of neighbor. We pray that mutual understanding, respect, and peace will replace enmity, hostility, and war.

We invite all who share this vision to seek out one another, to strengthen the bonds of friendship, and to join hands in healing our wounded world.

We call upon the ICCJ community and all those committed to maintaining and improving interreligious relations to redouble our efforts especially at this difficult time.peace.
