Statement of the Amitié Judéo-Chrétienne de France (AJCF)

What can be said that has not already been said by our civil and religious authorities after the bloody attacks of November 13 ? [We feel] compassion for so many victims and for the bereaved, horror in the face of the barbarism of the murderers, dismay and a feeling of helplessness facing a fanaticism that dares to say it acts in the name of God and has lost all sense of humanity.
What could I add in the name of the Amitié judéo-chrétienne de France, if not that it is precisely our humanity that we need to preserve all around us, but also we ourselves—by not giving in to hatred and fear—must continue to preserve within us the image of the God in which we have been created.
A number of days ago we attended a beautiful evening where the Jew Catherine Chalier and the Muslim Karima Berger meditated together on Etty Hillesum. It is this kind of dialogue that can strengthen our determination to continue, no matter what the cost, to build peace and fraternity. The AJCF will do its best to remain true to that.

Communiqué de l’Amitié Judéo-Chrétienne de France
Que dire, qui n’ait déjà été dit par nos responsables civils et religieux, après les sanglants attentats du 13 novembre ? Compassion pour les si nombreuses victimes et pour ceux qui ont perdu un proche, horreur devant la barbarie des assassins, consternation et sentiment d’impuissance devant un fanatisme qui, osant se réclamer de Dieu, a perdu tout sentiment d’humanité.
Que pourrais-je ajouter au nom de l’Amitié Judéo-Chrétienne de France, sinon peut-être que c’est justement l’humanité qu’il nous faut préserver, autour de nous, mais en nous aussi, en évitant de céder à la haine et à la peur, en préservant en nous cette image de Dieu selon laquelle nous avons été créés.
Nous vivions il y a peu une magnifique soirée où la juive Catherine Chalier et la musulmane Karima Berger méditaient ensemble l’exemple d’Etty Hillesum. C’est cette voie de dialogue qui peut nous conforter dans notre volonté de continuer, quoi qu’il en coûte, à construire la paix et la fraternité. L’AJCF s’efforcera, pour sa part, d’y rester fidèle.
